Football betting rules at Vamos Bet
These football betting rules explain how Vamos Bet reviews and settles football wagers, including prematch and live bets. They cover match result markets, goals, handicaps, qualification, player events, cards, corners, postponed fixtures, technical issues and official result changes. They are intended to help customers understand the main football betting rules in Ethiopia before confirming a bet.
Always check the market name, the time period shown, the event status and any special wording in the bet slip. A market may use “90 minutes”, “full time”, “including extra time” or “to qualify”, and these descriptions do not mean the same thing. If a general explanation on this page differs from the conditions displayed for a particular market, the specific market rules and applicable Terms and Conditions take priority.
Standard settlement time: 90 minutes
For most football markets, settlement is based on 90 minutes of play plus the referee’s added time, also called stoppage time. Added time is part of the normal match period. It is different from extra time, which is two additional periods played after the scheduled match has finished, usually in a knockout fixture.
This is the usual basis for 90 minutes football betting and for many standard football betting settlement rules:
- Match Result / 1X2: the home win, draw or away win after 90 minutes and added time.
- Double Chance: the selected two-result combination after the normal match period.
- Total Goals: goals scored during the stated 90-minute period, including added time.
- Handicap: the adjusted result at the end of the applicable match period.
- Both Teams to Score: whether both teams score during the period specified in the market.
Unless the market says otherwise, a penalty scored during normal play is treated as a match goal. The market description remains the best reference when a competition uses an unusual format or a special settlement condition.
When extra time counts
Extra time football betting uses a different settlement period from an ordinary 1X2 or full-time market. Extra time counts only when it is expressly included in the market wording or in the relevant rules. Common examples include “including extra time”, “to qualify”, “winner of tie”, “team to lift the trophy” and “outright winner”.
For example, a bet on Team A to win 1X2 will normally be decided after 90 minutes and added time. A bet on Team A to qualify may remain open until the tie is decided after extra time, and possibly a penalty shootout, if that is stated for the market. An outright winner market may also follow the competition’s final method of deciding the winner.
Do not assume that a match shown as having a winner has produced a winning 90-minute bet. Before placing a wager, compare the event format with the market title and check whether extra time is included.
How penalties are settled
A penalty kick taken during normal play or extra time is an ordinary football event. If the market includes that period, the resulting goal may count for goals, team and player markets according to the applicable rules. A penalty shootout is different: it takes place after extra time to decide which team advances or wins the tie.
- A penalty during the match is not the same as a penalty shootout.
- Shootout kicks usually do not increase the total-goals score for a 90-minute market.
- A shootout may decide a “to qualify”, trophy or outright market where the wording includes it.
Under these penalty shootout betting rules, a 0–0 match after 90 minutes remains 0–0 for a standard total-goals market, even if one team later wins the shootout. The exact market terms should be checked before confirmation, particularly in cup and knockout competitions.
Cancelled, postponed and abandoned matches
A cancelled football match bet, a postponed football match betting selection and an abandoned fixture may be treated differently depending on the event and market. The applicable time limit, restart requirement or competition condition must be confirmed in the published Vamos Bet rules. The relevant policy may refer to a specified number of hours, the next calendar day or completion within the same competition round; this page does not replace that specific condition.
If a match is cancelled before it starts, or postponed before kickoff, the selection may be declared void and the stake refunded unless another rule applies. If a match has started but is abandoned, the wager may also be void if the event is not completed within the required period. However, a market whose outcome was already determined before the interruption may be settled where the rules allow it. A match that is resumed later may remain pending until the applicable completion requirement is met.
Errors in the listed date, teams, competition or market can affect validity. If an official result is changed after the final whistle, settlement will follow the applicable Terms and Conditions and confirmed event data. Customers should retain the bet reference and contact support through Contact Us if the event status appears inconsistent.
Live football betting settlement
Live football betting rules apply while the match is in progress. Prices can move quickly, and a bet sent during a goal, red card, VAR review, penalty decision or dangerous attacking phase may be held while the event is checked. The system may accept the wager at a new price, reject it, suspend the market or cancel an unconfirmed request, depending on the transaction status and the relevant rules.
A live bet is not necessarily accepted at the moment it is submitted. Wait for the confirmation shown in the bet slip and check whether the selection is marked as accepted. A bet that remains pending may be settled only after official information confirms the match event. For current football fixtures and live markets, visit Vamos Bet live.
Odds changes and bet confirmation
A football odds change can occur before a requested wager is accepted. If the displayed price changes, the system may show a revised price for approval or reject the request. The original displayed odds do not automatically become the final odds.
Review the teams, market, selection, stake, time period and odds in the bet slip before pressing the confirmation button. This check is especially important for live football, where an event may occur between the initial request and system acceptance. Only an accepted bet, identified in the account or bet slip, should be treated as placed.
VAR, official data and result corrections
VAR can change whether a goal stands, whether a penalty is awarded or whether a red card is shown. During a review, a market may be suspended until the decision is clear. Settlement is based on the official event information used under Vamos Bet’s rules, rather than on an early broadcast graphic, personal interpretation or an unofficial score.
Official records may also correct scorers, cards, corners or the final result after an initial announcement. If a correction affects a bet that has already been settled, the operator’s Terms and Conditions determine whether the bet remains settled or is reviewed. For the governing conditions and regulatory information, see License & Regulation.
Player, cards and corners markets
Player, cards and corners markets can contain conditions that are not used for a standard match result. A card may count only when shown to an eligible player on the field, or the market may define whether team staff and substitutes are included. Do not assume that every visible card qualifies.
For corners, settlement generally depends on officially awarded and taken corners, subject to the market rules. A player selection may be void if the player does not enter the field, but this depends on the specific Vamos Bet condition. An own goal is usually not credited as a goal by that player unless the market rules state otherwise. Check the specific market rules before placing a bet whenever the participant, card definition, corner procedure or scoring attribution is unclear.
Examples of football bet settlement
The following examples show how football bet settlement may work. They are illustrations only; the market wording and Terms and Conditions control the actual decision.
- Scenario: The score is 1–1 after 90 minutes, and Team A wins 2–1 during extra time.
Settlement: A 1X2 bet on Team A normally loses because the market uses 90 minutes. A market explicitly including extra time may be settled differently. - Scenario: Team C and Team D finish 0–0 after normal time, then Team D wins a penalty shootout.
Settlement: Over 0.5 total goals for 90 minutes normally loses. The shootout result may count for a qualification market that includes penalties. - Scenario: A scheduled fixture is cancelled before kickoff and no special continuation rule applies.
Settlement: The selection may become a void bet with a refund stake, subject to the published cancellation policy. - Scenario: A live request is submitted while VAR is reviewing a possible penalty.
Settlement: The request may remain pending, be accepted at updated odds or become a rejected bet if the market was suspended before acceptance. - Scenario: A bet says “Team B to Qualify”, and Team B advances after extra time and a shootout.
Settlement: It may be a winning qualification selection when the market rules include both methods of deciding the tie.
Responsible football betting
Football betting should be entertainment, not a way to earn money or recover losses. Set a spending limit before playing, take breaks and never increase a stake to chase an earlier result. Vamos Bet customers can review support options, limits, pauses and self-exclusion through Responsible Gaming.
Betting is for adults only. Read the Age Restriction Policy and use the available support if gambling is becoming difficult to control. If you are uncertain about a market or settlement, pause before placing the bet and ask for clarification.
